Make your agent live
Make your agent live so real customers can reach it. Choose who answers, connect a channel, and test before you share the number or widget.
Your agent reaches real customers when two things are true:
- The AI is set to answer.
- At least one channel is connected: a phone number, the website widget, WhatsApp, or text messages.
The top of your agent's page shows both. You can change who answers at any time. Your setup stays the same.
Read your agent's status
The status next to your agent's name says who answers your calls and messages.
- AI answers. The AI answers every call and message, day and night.
- You answer. The AI answers no one. Calls ring your phone for about 20 seconds and then go to voicemail. Messages wait in your inbox.
- After hours. You answer while you are open. The AI answers while you are closed. A line under the status shows the times from your business hours. Example: "AI answers 5 PM – 9 AM and weekends."
The line under the name says whether customers can reach the agent. It reads "Connected on" and lists the channels. It reads "Not connected" when no channel is connected.
| Status | Line under the name | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| AI answers | Connected on ... | The AI answers customers on those channels. |
| You answer | Connected on ... | Customers reach you. Calls ring your phone and then go to voicemail. Messages wait in your inbox. |
| AI answers | Not connected | Customers cannot reach the agent. You can test it with Chat and Call your agent. |
| You answer | Not connected | Customers cannot reach the agent. The AI would not answer them. |
Stop the AI right now
- Click the status next to your agent's name.
- Choose You answer.
- Select Save.
The AI stops at once. Nothing in your setup is deleted. To restart the AI, click the status again and choose AI answers.
Publish your latest changes
Publish any changes to the prompt, voice, or knowledge first. A saved draft does not affect customers until you publish it. See Save and publish changes for drafts, published versions, and rollback.
Let the AI answer
- Open your agent's page and read the status near the top.
- If it shows You answer, click it, choose AI answers, and select Save.
- Read the line under the name. If it says Not connected, see Connect your first channel.
To keep some calls for yourself, choose After hours. You answer while you are open. The AI takes calls while you are closed. You can hear how the AI handles real customers before you give it the whole day.
The After hours choice shows your week as one bar per group of days. Green means the AI answers. Gray means you answer. Each row ends with the AI's times, such as "AI 5 PM – 9 AM" or "AI all day." Select Edit hours to change them.
If you have not set business hours, select Set hours first. Times use your business time zone. The page names the time zone when it differs from yours.
See Choose who answers, or delete an agent for each option.
Test it as a customer would
Before you tell anyone about the new number, widget, or WhatsApp line, use it yourself. Call the number, open the widget on your site, or send a message. Listen to how the agent responds. Check that it:
- Introduces itself correctly.
- Answers a question from your knowledge base.
- Does the other things you set up, such as booking an appointment or taking a message.
If anything sounds wrong, fix the prompt or knowledge, publish the change, and test again. See Test your agent for other ways to run a test conversation.
