Vocabulary and pronunciation

Use vocabulary and pronunciation settings to teach your agent the words, names, and terms of your business, and how to say them.

Vocabulary teaches your agent words that callers use and the agent might misunderstand. Examples are product names, staff names, and industry terms. You type the word once. You can also spell out how it sounds. Nuteq AI applies both to every call and text.

What is vocabulary for?

Vocabulary solves two problems. Each uses a different part of the same entry.

  • Hearing. Your business may have an unusual name, a product code, or a staff name that callers say often. Add it as vocabulary. The agent then recognizes it and does not transcribe a similar wrong word.
  • Speaking. A word, such as a brand name, can look different from how it sounds. The "Pronounce it as" field tells the agent how to say it.

You can add the word only, the pronunciation only, or both.

Add a word or name

  1. Open the agent's editor and go to the Vocabulary section.
  2. In "Word or phrase", type the word as you want it to appear in a transcript.
  3. Optional. In "Pronounce it as", type how it sounds.
  4. Select Add.

The word appears in your list at once. It applies to every call and text after that. If "Pronounce it as" is empty, Nuteq AI uses the word only to improve recognition. It does not change how any voice says it.

An agent can have up to 100 active entries.

Spell out a pronunciation

Use "Pronounce it as" when the agent recognizes a word but says it wrong. Type a simple respelling with ordinary letters, as you would sound it out for a person. Example: spell "Nuteq AI" as "new-tek". The agent then says it that way every time, in any sentence.

The respelling affects speech only. The written transcript keeps the normal spelling.

Remove a word

Select the trash icon next to the word. The removal applies at once to new calls and texts. Remove words you no longer need, such as a discontinued product name. There is no undo. To restore a word, type it again.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding a vocabulary word change what my agent says?
No. A vocabulary word helps the agent hear and pronounce a term correctly. It does not add information or change how the agent answers.
How many vocabulary words can one agent have?
An agent can have up to 100 active vocabulary entries. This is enough for the product names, staff names, and industry terms of almost any business.
Do I have to spell out pronunciation for every word I add?
No. The "Pronounce it as" field is optional. Leave it blank to improve only how the agent recognizes the word.
Will a vocabulary word change my call transcripts?
No. The transcript shows the word as you typed it. A pronunciation changes only how the word sounds when spoken.
