Agents
Actions
Agent actions and tools let your AI receptionist book appointments, capture leads, transfer calls, and look up your knowledge base.
Actions are what an agent can do during a call or chat, besides talk. Examples are booking an appointment, capturing contact details, transferring to a person, and answering from your knowledge base. You turn each action on in the Actions tab.
What actions are for
An agent with actions does tasks, not only talk. In the same call or chat, it can check your real availability, add a booking request to the calendar, save a lead's name and number, or hand the caller to a person.
Each action you turn on also appears as a chip in the Instructions tab. When you write instructions, you can see which actions the agent has.
Available actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Answer questions from your knowledge | Looks up facts in your connected knowledge base to answer a question. |
| Capture contact details | Saves a caller's name, phone number, email, or reason for calling as a lead. |
| Check availability | Looks up open slots on your connected calendar. |
| Request appointments | Adds a booking request to your calendar for a slot that was checked. |
| Transfer calls | Sends the caller to a person at a phone number or SIP destination you set. Voice calls only. |
| Tell your team that a customer asked for a person | Records the request and sends you an email alert. Also sends a text message if you verified a mobile number. Works on calls and on every chat channel. Every agent has this action. It has no switch. |
| End calls | Ends a call politely when the conversation is done. Voice calls only. |
| Call your API | Sends a request to your own API or connected service. |
Some actions have consequences, such as requesting an appointment. For these, the agent reads back what it will do and waits for the caller to confirm.
When a customer asks for a person and no transfer is possible, the agent records the request. See When a customer asks for a person.

Frequently asked questions
