SIP trunk connection

A SIP trunk connection links your existing phone system to Nuteq directly, an advanced setup best done together with our support team.

By Nuteq TeamPublished 1 min read

In Nuteq, a SIP trunk connection is a direct link between your existing phone system and an agent, set up with the server address, username, and password your provider gives you, instead of using a Nuteq-provided number.

Is this for you?

A SIP trunk is the technical name for the setup described in Advanced phone connections. It's meant for businesses that already run a PBX or a provider like RingCentral, Nextiva, or Zoom, and want that system to hand calls to an agent directly. If you don't already have one of these systems, getting a Nuteq number is the simpler path. See Get or bring a phone number.

Setting one up

You can enter your provider's connection details yourself from Settings, but because every provider is configured a little differently, we strongly recommend setting this up together with support rather than on your own. We'll confirm calls are actually reaching your agent before you point real customers at the number.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SIP trunk?
A SIP trunk is a direct connection between two phone systems over the internet, instead of a phone number routed the usual way. It's the technical term for linking your existing phone system straight to Nuteq.
What information do I need to set one up?
You'll need connection details from your phone provider, typically a server address, a username, a password, and the phone number involved. Your provider's support team can give you these if you don't already have them.
