In Nuteq, advanced phone connections are for businesses that already run their own phone system, a PBX or a provider like RingCentral, Nextiva, or Zoom, and want to connect it directly to an agent instead of using a Nuteq-provided number.
Who this is for
Most businesses don't need this. If you just want a phone number that reaches your agent, getting a new Nuteq number or bringing an existing one over is simpler and works right away. See Get or bring a phone number. Advanced phone connections exist for the smaller group of businesses whose calls already flow through their own phone infrastructure, and who want that infrastructure to hand calls to a Nuteq agent directly.
What's involved
Connecting an existing phone system means telling Nuteq how to reach your provider using details like a server address, a username, and a password, terms your provider's support team can give you if you don't have them already. Because every provider's setup is a little different, this is not a setup you should do without checking that it works. We recommend reaching out to support before or during setup, so we can confirm calls are actually reaching your agent before you rely on it for real customers.
Related terms
You may see this referred to as a SIP trunk, the technical name for a direct connection between two phone systems, or as bringing your own carrier, meaning the carrier or provider you already pay for. Both point at the same kind of setup described here.

Frequently asked questions
- Do most businesses need advanced phone connections?
- No. Most businesses just get a new number or bring an existing one over, which is simpler and works right away. Advanced phone connections are only for businesses with their own phone system already in place.
- Can I set this up myself without help?
- You can start the setup yourself, but we recommend going through support so we can confirm calls are routing correctly before you point real customers at it.
