# Supported countries for phone numbers

Nuteq phone number countries are the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. See what works in each country, and how UK businesses text customers.

In Nuteq, your AI receptionist works with phone numbers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. This page shows which ways of connecting a number work in each country, and how businesses in the UK text their customers.

When you connect a number, Nuteq only lists the countries that option works in, so you never pick a country that can't be finished. If United Kingdom doesn't appear in the country list, [contact support](/docs/help/contact-support).

## How do UK businesses text customers?

UK Nuteq numbers are local numbers that take calls. They can't send or receive text messages. To text customers in the UK, [connect WhatsApp](/docs/connections/whatsapp). Your AI receptionist answers WhatsApp messages, books appointments, and captures leads there, the same way it does on calls.

Buying a UK number is as quick as buying a US one, and the number is ready in about a minute. Pick United Kingdom as the country when you [get a new number](/docs/connections/phone/get-or-bring-a-phone-number), and the list shows each number's monthly cost before you buy.

## Can I keep my UK number?

Yes. Forward your existing UK number to a Nuteq number, and your customers keep calling the number they already know. Setup lists BT, Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three, and shows the steps for your provider. Porting a UK number to Nuteq isn't available yet, so forwarding is the way to keep it.
